The Ready Only Memory, more popularly known as ROM(s) basically, is a file format that houses a copy of your games ripped from the original game cartridge or gotten from an online download. So hurray, our beloved Atari 5200 games have been preserved all thanks to the ROM technology which enables Atari 800 game cartridges to be converted into Atari 5200 ROMs. And even though the Atari 5200 is no longer being manufactured, these great games can still be played till date on your modern devices such as your PC, Tablet or Smartphone. However just after two years of its release, the Atari 5200 was discontinued. This was set up to encourage third-party development for the 5200 system as their 8-bit computers already had a dedicated group of developers. In additions to the games that came with the Atari 5200, games from the Atari 400 and 800 computer series cold be easily ported to the Atari 5200. The 5200 console was able to distinctively differentiate itself from its competitors with its slick controllers that had an analogue full 360 degree speed joystick and a numeric keypad and likewise start, pause, and reset buttons and its internal hardware was closely similar to that of the Atari 8-bit computers, thus a lot of users found it easy to navigate on. Though the console was poised to compete with the Intellivision console, in the end its major competitor was the ColecoVision console that was released at about the same time as the Atari 5200, both of which the Atari 5200 outsold. The Atari 5200 was a home video console manufactured by Atari Inc to serve as a higher end complementary console for its popular 8-bit series computers, particularly the Atari 2600. In November 1982, the Atari 5200 Super system mostly referred to as the Atari 5200, was released to the gaming public.
