You can't just expect to level higher and equip godly equipment to make it through a battle in this game - that's just not how real SRPGS work, period. Though FE7 is without a doubt the easiest in the series (as it was made to introduce english speakers to FE) it is still much harder ('specially in hard mode which you can get when you beat the game once) than FFTA ever was and ever could be.
